Frequently Asked Questions

I've never been to therapy before, what can I expect? This is the first step. If you have never been to therapy before, please do not let this be a deterrent for starting your journey. Everyone needs help now and then. The therapist will work with you and will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing. In the first meeting, the therapist will get to know you by asking about your presenting issues and gain a brief history and background. They will also assess sleep, diet, hygiene, and social relationships. They will also provide clear communication and feedback along the way and for those who are in therapy for the first time. This process will be explained so that you will feel comfortable.

Are therapy sessions confidential? All interactions which take place in the setting of therapy are considered confidential. This includes requests by telephone, all interactions with a therapist, any scheduling or appointment notes, all session content records and any progress notes taken during your sessions. We will not even verify that you are a client. You may choose to give us permission in writing to release any or specific information about you to any person or agency that you designate. Limits to this agreement In some legal proceedings a judge may issue a court order. This would require your therapist to testify in court. If your therapist learns of or believes that there is physical or sexual abuse or neglect of any person under 18 years of age, we must report this information to child protective services. If your therapist learns of or believes that an elderly person, or disabled person is being abused or neglected, we must file a report with the appropriate state agency that handles elder abuse. If your therapist learns of or believes that you are threatening serious harm to another person, we are obligated to report this. This can be in the form of telling the person who you have threatened, contacting the police or placing you into hospitalization. If there is evidence that you are a danger to yourself and your therapist believes that you are likely to kill yourself unless protective measures are taken, your therapist may be obligated to seek hospitalization for you or to contact family members or others who can help provide protection. There may be times when a therapist consults with outside sources about cases. In these cases, no personally identifiable information will be used to discuss this case. However, discussion topics will be used in order to ensure that you are getting the best assistance possible. The persons with whom we discuss cases are legally bound to keep information confidential.

What is a Good Faith Estimate? Providers and facilities must give you: Your good faith estimate before an item or service is provided, within certain timeframes. An itemized list with specific details and expected charges for items and services related to your care. Your good faith estimate in writing (paper or electronic). Note: A provider or facility can discuss the information included in the estimate over the phone or in person if you ask. Your estimate in a way that’s accessible to you. If you receive a bill that is at least $400.00 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

How long does treatment take and how frequent are the sessions? An initial assessment is about an hour. Each additional session thereafter is 50 minutes. Group therapy sessions are 50 minutes. When you schedule an initial assessment, you will receive a set of documents to be filled out and returned electronically. The initial assessment session is spent reviewing these documents with you and getting a general understanding of your mental health needs and concerns. This information is used to create a treatment plan for you which we use to guide the rest of your treatment. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length and number of therapy sessions can vary for each person. There is no way to expedite or speed up the process of therapy, however, the more open and willing you are to the process-the more you will get out of it.
